Halloween was terrible then wonderful

Image
Behold (from left!), a fat old man, a wizard, a mushroom and very sad overwhelmed Bailey. The poor child struggled with her costume this year, losing a key feature and being unwilling to switch gears and then dissolving into a puddle of tears and anxiety. It was sad and also super frustrating. I yelled something terrible like, "Just put on any god damn costume!" and caused more tears and fear. A terrible parenting moment that I feel bad about. Jessica, who always rises in crisis, helped Bailey calm down and came up with a truly extraordinary costume. A leaf bag! Complete with real leaves and an accompanying rake. And then the night went off swimmingly. Thank you to Bailey for being flexible and especially to Jessica for saving the Halloween day (night).

Crop Art (art entirely from seeds)

Every year there's a fantastic crop of super creative crop art at the Minnesota State Fair. And sharing here just cause it's so damn fun. Enjoy!

Blog note

Image
Every once in a while we'll find a kid or two on the computer looking at the blog. Reading past posts, looking at photos, remembering what it was like "when they were a kid". The posts go back to the day Art was born and have captured a plethora of moments and memories. The blog has ended up being a historic family document that the kids (and their parents) love to return to, and it's why it will never die! Soon I'll be switching the thing over to a Word Press blog, but the web address should stay the same. Anyway, we admittedly been terribly absent on the blog of late. The duty of posting on this is now entirely on Ben's shoulders, and he's been doing other stuff like making a documentary film this year. BUT, I'm going to get back at it and post a number of photos over the next few weeks. Many will be older but new to our gazillion Follow Art fans. Alright, there it is. thanks, Ben

Nature day revisited.

Image
We used to do nature day almost weekly. And excuse to get in nature and be together. Yesterday it made it's return and was wonderful. There is something pure and real about fun about all being together in the woods. We are still feeling the residual closeness and love. Here are some photos. At the beautiful Interstate Park at in Taylors Falls, about an hour from town. Art: "Papa, take my photo." Ok. If there is a hole in anything anywhere, Lewis likes to go through it. Jessica trying to use the park's selfie station.
