Art and Lewis are Friends

First of all, let me just say that I think Art may be Lewis's favorite person. Lewis is always ready to smile when Art talks to him, and why shouldn't he smile? Arthur likes to make googly noises to Lewis, he likes to tickle Lewis and give him a toy and he even likes to greet him when he wakes up. Just the other day Art and I were downstairs when I heard Lew waking up. We went up together and Art said, "Oh, Lewis is waking up! I have to make Lewis smile. You go in my room and pretend to be asleep." And that was the low down. He has to make Lewis smile. Then he goes and says in a little baby-talky voice, "Hello Lewis! Hello, Lewis! Are you awake, Lewis? I'm here! I'm here!" And that is how Art and Lewis are friends.

http://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf We went to an orchard today west of the Twin Cities. Lew stayed with Bubbe and Devontae joined us. The sky was blue when we left, but an hour later it was cloudy, SUPER windy, very cold, and slightly snowing. yes, snowing. But we endured and picked a BUTTLOAD of apples....

I got Lew down, tidied up, undid the dishwasher and sat down. Three minutes later Art woke up. But then, when he came downstairs he said, "Mama! Did you have a great nap?" "I didn't get a nap," I said. "But I feel good." "You didn't take a nap?" he said at the landing of the stairs. "No, I didn't take nap." "You didn't take a nap? I thought you would." That was so thoughtful.
A Phone Conversation

Art has a little pretend cell phone Bubbe gave him that I sometimes give him in the car to play with. The buttons make different sounds and when you close it (it's a flip phone) it rings in a few seconds. So it's like getting a phone call. Here's who he called and what the conversations were on the way home from Bubbe's today. "Hello, Nanna. How are you doing, Nanna? Oh, you're doing good? Oh. Are you in the car? Oh. Do you want to come to my house? Oh. You do want to come to my house? Ok. See you soon." (Closes phone.) "That was Nanna. She's going to come to our house to play." (Phone rings...) "Hello... hello....Ashley! How are you doing? I'm doing good. You're doing good? Oh. I'm in the airplane. Oh. Do you want to play at my house? Oh. Ok. Are you already at my house? Oh. Oh." (Closes phone.) "She's not at our house but she at... she's on... on her way." (Phone rings. ...

Art and I went on a bike ride to go and see me get my haircut. Afterwards, I asked Arthur if he wanted to get his hairs cut, and he said yes. A really nice woman cut his hair, and he told her lots of funny things. like, "I can see my Papa in the mirror!" or "LeVar went down the hill and he screamed!" (that's LeVar from reading rainbow). And "You almost cut me ear!" He was so quiet and gentle and patient. really made me happy to watch him get his all his hairs cut. This photo is from my cell phone.

Yesterday I gave Lewis solid food three times, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Banana for breakfast, rice cereal for lunch and squash for dinner. Meanwhile, Art was have tofu and asparagus for dinner and at first picked all the asparagus out. Then he said, mid-meal, "I like asparagus!" What a good day of eating for the boys.
2 IPM

Just wanted you all to know that Lewis is able to scoot forward in a sitting position at a rate of about 2 IPM (Two Inches Per Minute). He would very much like to be able to pull himself up to standing but that's a little way off yet. If I stand him up against the coffee table he will stop kvetching and focus on pulling books off the table, however I need to keep my hand close by because he is too wobbly to do this by himself. That is the report.
Jessica's irritants

I'm sitting here at work and just received this great e-mail from jessica: Irritant: Finding marbles and bouncy balls everywhere Solution: Never buy millions of the same thing just for the hell of it again! Irritant: Coins on the floor in every room of the house Solution: Put your coins in a bowl or container WITH EDGES as soon as you get home so they stop pooping themselves all over the house. Those coins on the floor are coming from you. As far as I know I am not the coin pooper because I put my change in the change part of my wallet. Irritant: Getting hit and screamed at by Art. Solution: unknown. These are my major irritants right now. Please do your part to alleviate the first two. Must find solution for the other soon!!!!
running report from Uncle Mike

Art's Uncle Mike , a very accomplished runner and marathoner, wrote a nice summary of Art's big race day: Arthur James Garvin ran his first ever race on Saturday, placing somewhere in the middle of the pack of heat 2 of the Twin Cities Marathon Family Day 50 Meter Toddler Trot in the 24 to 35 month age group. He had so much fun when Emily saw him yesterday (a day after the race) he run around his backyard showing her how fast he is. Other highlights of Arthur’s big day: He really enjoyed the mascot race that was also part of family day. They had photo ops for the kids (and grown-ups) before the “race” and Arthur would go up to each mascot and shake its hand as if he was in a business setting. As the mascots ran past us during the mascot race he said “Go animals go!!” not recognizing of course that the HealthPartners pee cup mascot is not an animal. He wore his medal (it’s actually made out of foam rubber) from the toddler trot all weekend. Jessica took it off Saturday night ...

Here's the Parker/Garvin/Nowraki runners from the TC 5k. Look, there I am! Mike ran really well. There were only about 9 or 10 people ahead of him and he might have won for his age group. Em did real well, too and so did my aunt Deb! Ben missed me while I ran past the finish line because he didn't know what I was wearing, but Art knew and I heard him say, "Go Mama!" while I ran past. It was a big crowd - walls of people. He had good eyes!!! From race day - jess

Hello! Today Art ran a 50m "toddler trot", all part of the Twin Cities Marathon Family Fun Day. There was also a Mascot race, including Petey Pee Cup (representing for Health Partners clinics and insurance) and Harry and Shelly (Tortoise and Hare mascots for the TC Marathon). Art shook hands with every mascot he met and even kissed one. It was a monkey. He got a T-Shirt and a really cool rubber medal for participating, and his own number! How cool is that!
