Shazam!

Image
Today Ben, Art, my aunt Deb and I met at 8:15am to go before Judge John Q. McShane and have my name changed. The judge asked me a slew of official questions, asked Deb and Ben if they heard the answers and believe they are true, and then he granted my name change from Jessica Austen Parker to Jessica Parker Garvin (I'm a jpg!). Then, I'm not kidding, he raised his arms and said "Shazam!" and asked to see the baby. Cool!

Baby reunion.

this here's a photo of a bunch of babies, products of the couples in the childbirth class jess and I took. So many cute warm snuggly things! Art's in overall's at right.

Art's grabbing a toy!

Image
He is consistantly grabbing things that are near his hands and hanging on to them. He even brings them to his mouth. Interesting, this fun toy is made in Minneapolis by a company called "Manhattan Toy". Thanks for giving it to Art, Tim and Cynthia!

The Power of Laughter

I was getting into this bedroom reorganization groove and there was this baby with his totally normal and natural needs getting in my way. Anyway, I was getting a little annoyed but then, while I was changing him for the upteenth time he gave me what we call a "body smile" - when his arms and shoulders and legs and hands all get into the act. I said, "You win!" and my frustration melted away.

Art overseas the updating of his blog. He's very picky, and will cry the instant we mispell something...

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Image
Never! Here's a bunch of pictures from the weekend. There's Devonte, Ben's Little Brother, holding Art, then a picture Devonte took of Ben and Art, Art smiling during another trusty round of Itsy Bitsy, and finally, Art crying in his car seat. Now, did anybody see the Italian ice dancers tonight? The ones that had a bad fall last night and were giving each other the total silent treatment since then? Apparently they haven't been seen speaking or even standing near each other all day. Sulking. I'm not very into Ice Dancing, but it's pretty weird to see grown-ups act like kids on international T.V..

Resting well and back to normal.

Art had a really long sleep last night after his hard day. Six hours! Then he had a small meal at 4am and slept some more. So, he made up for lost time. Now he's back to normal taking a really good nap. Yeah! I expect to find a happy, rested baby when I get up to feed him soon.

Groovin' on a Sunday Afternoon

Image
This is from last weekend when Nan was in town. Ben was egging me on to dance "Harder Core!!!" Cute, new pic on the way once I get more batteries for the camera to transfer the files. Art had a hard day today. For some reason he never took a good nap, just little cat naps. When I left for work and passed him off to my Mom I thought for sure he would end up taking a long sleep, but she said he never slept longer than an hour. Poor guy, he was so tired. At one point tonight he fell asleep in my arms but he woke up 15 minutes later with the most heart-breaking cry. I actually teared up myself feeling bad for him. Something must have been bothering him today. Maybe it was something I ate? Maybe he was stressed out for some reason. He wasn't crabby, just sort of insomniac. He's been sleeping for an hour now (11pm) and hopefully will just keep on sleeping soundly until his usually 2:30am meal. Sweet dreams, little Art. We all love you...

Pirate Eye Is Watching You

Image
I was remembering with my Mom today Art's old "Pirate Eye", something that he did all the time when he was first born. Here's a few pictures of him on his birthday, one day old and three days old. He kept up the pirate eye for a few more weeks, but he just doesn't do it anymore. (Click on the pictures to see them bigger.) I've actually been thinking a lot lately about how rapidly Art is growing and how many things he's already grown out of. I'm sure all babies grow and change this fast, but it's amazing, if you really think about it. And then it's just as amazing how us parents just grow along with the baby. Take, for instance, the Chipmunk Sound Art used to make when he was hungry. He would go, "Eh eh eh eh" and we knew it was time to eat. Now he's in a sort of rhythm so we know by timing as well as a whimper sort-of cry. He also used to root around - shake his head trying to center on anything near his mouth that could ...

Art had a great sleep last night.

Just for all of you who wonder, "How's Art sleeping?" he has been sleeping longer bit by bit during the night. Last night he only woke once around 2:30am for a feeding and then was up for the day at 6:30am. That is a great night for us! And for him. Oh, and he took a great nap today too - 3 hours - and then another little short nap later in the day. For that nap I had him swaddled sort of loosely and when I heard him making sounds I came to his room to find him stretching his arms and looking around. I said, "Well, hello Arthur!" and smiled at him and he smiled right back to me! Smiling right after a nap. Now that's a happy baby!

Daily Exercises

Image
Here's Art doing his daily push-ups. And also rolling over. He does that once in a while, too.

Nanna, Nanna, Nanna!

Image
Nan was in town this weekend (Ben's mom). Here's a couple pics of Art's adventures with his Nanna: Smiling while sleeping on Nanna's lap. Walking together. Showing off his pectorals.

Compare and Contrast

Check out this picture of Art's bath yesterday and this one from last month. He's growing in size and maturity, too.

No news is good news.

Image
Sorry, Art fans. Nothing new to report. Art is just growing exponentially and smiling more and more, but that's not really news. He hasn't even pooped in a few days. But here's an older picture for you starving Art-ists. Art is only one day old in this one.

Well documented baby...

Ben said this morning, after taking all those great pictures he just posted, that this is a well documented baby. And then he added, "I feel bad for our second kid already."

Mad, Hungry Baby Eats Thumb

Image
Art is getting much more adept at getting his thumb in his mouth, as can be seen in this picture. He was really hungry and got it right in there while I was changing him! But I made him mad when I ran for the camera instead of feeding him right away, so then he was really hungry and really angry.

Awwwwww!

Another picture from January. But it's too cute to not share.

Later he woke up and watched the game with Emily and Mike.

Naked Baby!

Image
For you people who just can't get enough of Art, here's a picture from last month of Art getting a bath in the kitchen sink. And don't forget to check the posts from November and December (over to the left). I have back-blogged entries from his earlier months. Some pictures have never before been seen!

This is just a nice picture of Art's dad taken of him to test out a new camera at work.
