A question for mama.

Art- "Why is your hair wet?" Mama- "Its not, it's just really dirty." --Sent from my handheld device.--

Arthur and Tsundi were a tiny fraction as helpful as they thought they were.

Cottage reportage.

Lews footprints. Uncle Brian reads Art his books. Art loved (loves) hanging out with Brian. Art slept in real late both mornings, and both times we found him entirely UNDERCOVERS. Emma Longley rises from where she slept between Cait and Zach. Dancing. We went 'deer hunting' one night, something Jessica did as a kid with her family. We basically just drove around looking for deer at dusk. Halfway through Jessica dropped Lew and I off (so I could put him to bed) and Art and Jess went on a 'special car ride' where Art was allowed to sit in the front seat. This photo is from when the returned, and they saw TWO deer. Art was very proud, and wanted to show me how he got to sit up front.

Art's bird

Art drew this 'bird' to give to his friend Tristan for his birthday.

Art is ready to go to the cottage!

Image
We are off to the cottage in Wisconsin.  Art remembers it from last summer and couldn't wait to go.  He sat in his seat for almost an hour while we packed up the car.  I used to do the same thing when I was a kid! --Sent from my handheld device.--

Art is at a birthday party!

Art is at his first big kid, drop-him-off and go birthday party.  They rented a big blow-up jumping thing and after Ben dropped Art off he said everyone was jumping but Art.  Art wanted Ben to go in with him.  Well, I just got a call, 45 minutes after the party was supposed to be over.  It was Ben.  He said, "Art is impossible to extract from this thing."  I guess he had a good time!!!

What those humpback whales are really doing.

We were watching "Coral Seas" a nature show that is in heavy rotation here.  There was a humpback whale "singing".  It was making some high squeaks and then some long, groaning sounds.  Art said, "Maybe he's making a poop!" Wait.  It gets better. "Does he have a butt?  Buuuttt!!!!  Eeeeeeeeeeeeew!  Buttty!"

Thinking place.

Image
As we drove past the cemetery today Art said he wanted to go to the 'thinking place.' I realize a while back I had described a cemetery as a place where people go to think about people they love. So later in the evening we rode our bike there and played. One of many times Art ran down a big hill. Art is explaining a game to me. Something about, "You have to sit on this rock, then run when I say ready, set, go. Ok Papa? Are you ready?"

Jessica and the boys picked me (and my bike) up from work today. Jess says, "I call him Grandpa Lewis in that outfit."

What's that sound? (updated with new episode!)

It was 7:15am. I was about to go back to sleep to catch a few more winks and Ben was about to take Lewis downstairs when we heard this strange pa-dunk, pa-dunk, pa-dunk sound. "What's that sound?" Ben asked. I thought maybe Art was clunking something on his window... but it was getting louder... closer... Ben went in the hallway and said, "Oh my God! Look who's here!" It was Tsundi! Tsundi, who doesn't wake up until 10am on an average day was here, in our house, unbeknown to his parents. He had let himself in and just come upstairs, clunking along in huge winter boots and his pajamas. Art and Tsundi had an amazingly fun time playing with Ben and the sprinkler last night so we think that's why he probably was anxious to come back. Poor Kunsel, Tsundi's dad, was at the back door a few minutes later looking quite worried, hoping to find his son. Needless to say, I couldn't fall asleep after that. What a fun morning surprise! **Update**...

I got a LOT of THINGS in my basket!

Image
Jess: "I attached a cheap IKEA basket onto Art's bike last night (he chose the color) and this morning, first thing, he wanted to go on a bike ride. He collected many things to put in the basket including an etch-a-sketch, trains, the hot-pink sunglasses he got as a birthday party favor at school last week, a ball and, as you can see, a banana."

Potty taaaaaalk!

Art is so into potty talk lately.  He loves to say "poop" or "poopy on the head" and then call out, "POTTY TALK!"  I have a feeling that's something the kids do at school.  Anyway, tonight he said, "I want to read a book about butts!  Only books about BUTTS!!!!  Hhaahahhahaha!"

FRIENDS!

Image
Art and Tsundi are just so fun! Yesterday Ben and I returned from dear Nora's memorial to find Tsundi and Art running all around. Tsundi went into the garage and started dragging Art's tricycle out, saying, "Let's go! Let's go!" and then Art started yelling, "Let's go on a bike ride!" The boys put on helmets, backwards, and got on the bikes. Then I walked around the block with them while they literally just screamed and rode. They did stop to climb on a retaining wall, however.

Ow!

This is a fun little map generated from Google Analytics that shows where folks who check this blog lurk. We got no peeps in Montana or Mississippi!? What the hell.

How he'd like that.

Art was in the dining room eating his toast and complaining that there wasn't any butter on it, because he couldn't see the butter.  It had melted.  He was being a little pest saying, "Butter!  Nooooooooo!  BUTTER!"  Ben walks into the kitchen and says, "Arthur doesn't like the butter melted.  'Should I ask him if he'd like a fist in his face?  Should I ask him that?"

We all want to see Nora again.

Image
Today Art, Lewis and I went over the the Longley's house for their first time since sweet Nora died.  Art had known she was very sick.  We've visited her at home with her oxygen mask, when she couldn't go on a walk with us, and in the hospital.  We've told him that she had a special kind of sick that not a lot of people get.  Well, before I took the boys over I thought it was best to explain that Nora wouldn't be there and why.  Ben and I had talked about what we would say. Here's how it went: Me : You know, Art, I wanted to tell you that Nora won't be at Nance and Brian's today. Art : Why?   Me : Well, Nora died. Art : What's 'died'? Me : Well, her body stopped working and she couldn't use it anymore.  So we can't see Nora when we go to Nance's today. Art : But I want to see her. Me : So do I.  So does everybody.  [Pause.]  A lot of people are very sad about it.  I'm sad about it. Art : [Pause.] But where did she go? Me : Tha...

Babysitters' Report

This is from Aunt Ashley about her night with Uncle Josh as babysitters.  It's the first time they've watched both boys.  Sounds like it was a piece of cake! last night was lovely. easy, even. we went to the park. i pushed lew in the swing and josh played with art on the slide. then art wanted an apple, so we headed back. on the way, art collected some bark from a tree. he put them on the back of his bike, and they kept falling off. i carried them for him. we made it back. art had a few bites of an apple. i cut the skin off for lew. they were content to sit and watch levar. lew walked around a bit and climbed on the coffeetable. got down. walked to the stool. climbed up. got down. he was pretty good at entertaining himself.  then it was time to pick up the pizza. josh took art. lew and i set the table. i gave lew a little apple and some crackers as an appetizer. then art runs in yelling "pizza pizza pee pizza." he was so happy. lew loved the cheesy part. when we gave ...

Oh, Lewis! That's TERRIBLE!

Image
I had left Lewis in the living room to run up and see what Art was crying about. While I was upstairs with Art, who was suffering from an awful ear infection (that later ruptured, finally giving him some relief) I could hear this banging and clanging. I was back downstairs in maybe a couple minutes, if that, and found Lewis here. He is standing on a step stool in front of the stove clanking the burner grates against the stove top. And he looks as if this is the most natural baby thing to do. - Jess
