Curly Q's Ice cream (after eating Jessica's delicious cilantro-salmon burgers). Nora and Nance were unstoppable and created this wonderful monster of a marble roll.

A day at Josh's house.

Image
from Uncle Josh: I picked up art today and brought him over to my house and tried out the new pool. Real nice. Heated too! (heated with pots of stove-warmed water). We then baked cookies and ate cookies while enjoying the new hammock. He took a nice nap here on the bed downstairs, and I played a silent game on the computor. after an hour he made some sounds, and slowly woke up. The first thing he did was looked and saw me, giggled, and said "I love you!" hahaha!!! how touching!!! awesome! he is such a charmer!!!! -J can you find Tula?

Art reprimanded me.

We were riding our bike to Bubby's house this morning. Art was in the carriage thing that attaches to the back of the bike. After we stopped to get a cup of coffee I sat up to drink the thing while pedaling (no hands). Art immediately said, "Put your hands down so we don't fall, Papa!" I was shocked and happy he was so alert and safety conscious.

Canoeing the Minnehaha.

Image
Today Josh and Art and I went canoeing on Minnehaha Creek. Josh and I have a done it a few times, but it was Art's first time and he had great great fun. As soon as he saw the canoe he said, "Want to get in that boat!" He was enthralled for the entire 45-minute journey. going under a bridge.

A really big tree.

Art ate a couple glassfuls of ice tonight during dinner at a brewery in downtown st. paul. Jess and boys came to visit at work and we went out and ate.

Butterflies!

Image
We went to the Como Zoo today, they have a new butterly exhibit. We saw many many butterflies. It was all great until about halfway through and heard the carousel and got distracted. So we high tailed it to the end of the tent and rode the carousel. -Jess

a date.

Image
Jessica and I had our first kidless dinner (actually lunch) out in quite some time yesterday. We went to El Meson Spanish Carribean restaurant, and the food was surprisingly not so tasty. But the company was great (and beautiful), as evidenced by this camera phone photo.

A wonderful day.

Image
Today was a really wonderful day for our family. We spent most of the day outside, in the sun, with family, eating Jessica's delicious Thai barbeque, and playing. It's wonderful for Art (and Lew, even though he's a baby) to be raised around so many people who love him so much (and for Nanna to visit so often...). It makes me and Jessica incredibly happy to know everywhere arthur looks there's someone who shares in his delight at finding an ant. or doing a somersault. or picking a strawberry. Just today Bubby said something like, "do you you think any little boy is more loved than Arthur?" (somersault photo by josh!) Josh helped arthur with his bath and ashley read him many many books tonight.

Arthur's special spot (and a cake story)

Image
I actually think if one added up all the time Arthur spends at Bubby's house, about half of it would be sitting on her counter. In this photo jessica took yesterday they were making Bubby a birthday cake--at least that's what I was told [a tiny lie]. I got suspicious being that it was father's day. So when Art and I were on a bike ride I asked him about that cake. Who were you making that cake for, Arthur? "For Papa!" It was really delicious. Thanks bubby and arthur!

naptime update

this e-mail just arrived from Jessica and it's worth posting for the harder core Art/Lew followers: Josh stopped by on the way to the hardware store around 11 and he and Art walked down to 48th and back.  Then Art played in the backyard knocking "pins" down, but this time he would set two of the toddler chairs on the top of the back steps, walk around to the back of the steps and kick them down.  He was "devastating" them.  Then he starting playing "baseball" by throwing the blue bowling ball into the plants.  I asked him not to do that so he started to roll down the tipped wheelbarrow, which he then said was making "thunder".  Then we came in to eat a little bit.  I said, "It's time for your nap," and he said, "Yeah, it's time for my nap," (!).  We went upstairs, I tucked him in and sang a song.  He asked for the door closed.  I was downstairs starting up Colbert and trying to lull Lew to sleep when I heard a fain...

A trip to Minnehaha Falls with Devontae

Image
Devontae, Art, and I went to Minnehaha Falls a couple days ago. Devontae took the photos. And then afterwards Art and Devontae mowed the front lawn together.

Nice evening

Art and I had a wonderful day.  In the morning we got together with Evva and her baby brother, Oscar and mom Erin and we played and ate dinner with our neighbors, Becca, Alma and McClain.  At bedtime, after a few books and many songs (I kept doing "one more" because we were having such a lovely time) I turned out the light and told him that I had a lot of fun with him today.       "We did a lot of fun things today," I said.  "We went to the park with Evva..." He thought for a minute. "Evva ran and she went into the street and Erin said, 'No!  Don't go in the street!'" "That's right.  And so she came back.  And you ran and came back, too." "Yeah..." "And we played with Alma and climbed on the slide in the backyard." More thinking. "Alma had a bug on her skin.  Alma didn't like that.  She cried." "Well, she didn't cry, but she didn't like that bug." He thought some mor...

From Art's Bed

1:48p and both bugs are still awake.  Lewis is peaceful but not asleep.  Art has learned that he can get out of bed if he doesn't want to sleep and is exercising that ability right now.  I told him that if he doesn't stay in bed I will close his door.  So now he is in his room, mumbling and bumbling about who knows what but at least he's in there and if Lewis cooperates, I could maybe steal 15 minutes nap while Art entertains himself in there. Here's some funny stuff he was saying to me before I locked him up.  He called to me from his bed and I would respond, kinda laughing, every time. Thanks... for singing... Reading Rainbow, Mama. You're welcome, Arthur. Thanks for... reading... Stone Soup, Mama. You're welcome, Arthur. Thanks for... eating... eating a... Veggie Burger, Mama. You're welcome, Arthur.

Lewis and Tenzien.

Image
This is our neighbor Tenzien holding Lewis. Her little boy is one day younger than Art and has been living with relatives in India for the past year. He's coming back this summer for good and she (and we) are excited. He won't be speaking English (yet), but we hope that won't get in the way of play time in the sandbox.

Boys day out.

Image
Today Art and Devontae and I went to a fancy park near Lake of the Isles and then had Ice Cream at Sebastian Joe's afterwards. Devontae is so fun to watch with Art. He totally appreciates Art's desire to do things over and over a million times.
